The Meiri House - serves as a museum for the history, culture and mysticism of Safed.

The beautiful ancient city of Safed (The Hebrew name is Zefat) is a small town located in Northern Israel, 900 meters (3200 feet) above sea level in the mountains of the Upper Galilee, it commands magnificent views east to the Golan, north to the Hermon and Lebanon, west to Mt. Meron and the Amud Valley, and south to Tiberias and the Kinneret.

lt’s clear mountain air, artists colony, and historical sites dating mostly from the 16th century kabbalist community, provide a major attraction for tourists and vacationers during the spring and summer months.

Safed is also known to be the home for one of the influential leaders at that time and still, Rabi Joseph ben Ephraim Karo (1488 - 1575). He was author of the last great codification of Jewish law, the Shulchan Aruch, which is still authoritative for all Jews pertaining to their respective communities.

Safed is very pastoral and quiet and is great for a getaway from the rush of the big cities. The streets are narrow and romantic and if you are planing to stay overnight or more, you can easily find a nice hotel just around the corner.
