Herzliya

Herzliya (Hebrew: הֶרְצְלִיָּה‎) is a city of 85,000 residents located on the central coast of Israel. It is part of the Tel Aviv District. Named after Theodor Herzl (1860 -1904), who foresaw the establishment of the state of Israel, Herzliya covers an area of 26 km². Within its municipal boundaries is Herzliya Pituah, one of Israel’s most upscale neighborhoods, home to many ambassadors and foreign diplomats.

The Tourist added value of Herzelia is mostly in the west side, near the shore:

  • great beaches – Tel Baruch beach, Mandarine Hotel beach, Sidna-Ali beach – all are free to visit
  • the High-Tech area has many cafes, restaurants and other shops
  • the near by marine which has a very nice shopping mall and lots of restaurants
  • the apollonia ancient city and national park
  • Sidna-Ali mosque

The Sidna-Ali mosque was originally a 13th century Mamluk construction built in honor of one of Saladins lieutenants who fought bravely against the Crusaders and died in a battle on the hill on which the mosque now stands. His shrine is now housed within the building.
