Latrun is the first of the hilly ridges that a traveler will see on his way while ascending to Jerusalem.

Monastery ceiling is quite large and very high
The Monastery was established in 1890 by the Trappist Order. During the First World War, the Turks expelled the monks and destroyed the monastery. The Monks returned in 1927, when they built the present building. The clock tower of the church was completed only in 1954.
The Latrun Monastery became famous for the good wine and olive oil it produces, which are available from a small shop run by the monks.
The monastery garden is beautiful and so is the outside area surrounded by olive trees. Also in the garden, there is a collection of archaeological finds from the area.
How to get there:
Very easy. The Latrun Monastery can be seen from the road# 1 (Jerusalem – Tel Aviv road). If you drive from Tel-Aviv, Take a right at the Latrun Interchange to enter road # 3. Drive about 200 meters south and take a left in the intersection, to enter the Monastery Area.
Visiting Hours:
Monday to Saturday
8:30 – 11:00 & 14:30 – 16:00
Tel. 08-9255268
The Monastery is closed to visitors on Sundays.

The surrounding area is nice. The Monastery is close to "Mini Israel" park, so you may want to visit there as well.
